Henrik Lindstrand’s new album Space Between sees the composer crafting a soundscape that embraces stillness, contrast, and subtlety. While his signature piano remains at the core, the album incorporates synth and organ layers, woodwinds, drums, strings, and moments of silence.
Inspired by the Japanese concept of Ma—the space between moments that creates meaning:
“I was fascinated by how Ma values not just the notes or movements, but the quiet spaces that frame them. With Space Between, I wanted to create music that breathes, inviting the listener to find meaning in its pauses as much as its melodies,” says Lindstrand.

Centred around a folk inspired melody, this composition features minimalistic piano at its core, enveloped by a dense tapestry of ambient synth layers and organ. The piece is inspired by the book with the same name (by Richard Louv) which examines the fading connection between children and nature. Evoking a sense of nostalgia it urges us to rekindle our bond with the natural world.

Leken is an album that can in part be understood as a companion to a non-existing Lindstrand documentary. At the same time, the album comes from a tradition of Nordic free improv, and throughout its duration Lindstrand maintains a balance of melodic structure that has been carefully loosened to avoid overtaking the listeners ́ own storyline and imagery.

Swedish-Danish composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Henrik Lindstrand first gained acclaim as a solo artist in 2017 with his minimalist piano album "Leken." This was the beginning of a piano trilogy that continued with the albums "Nattresan" and "Nordhem," released on the UK based independent label One Little Independent, which together have been hailed as "the perfect soundtrack for reflection" (Magnetic Magazine).
